Al Jazirah Al Hamra, is the last authentic and abandoned traditional town, still standing in the United Arab Emirates. before the discovery of oil, its inhabitants subsisted on maritime and pearl trading. Al Jazirah Al Hamra now showcases elements of a traditional town, including  fortress for defense purposes, small market several mosques and a variety of infrastructure such as simple buildings to ornate houses with courtyards which belonged to rich pearl merchants.
