Outstanding hotel in the classical style. Elegant and beautiful, highly recommended. The staff are fantastic, mind readers in anticipating your needs. The restaurants are also very high quality. Many rooms have canal views.

Went there for a lunch and I loved the interior design, the view and the friendliness of the staff. Amazing attention to the details everywhere. The menu has limited options in terms of dishes, but everything we ordered felt fresh. Overall a very nice experience, I will definitely come back in the summer time.

We were shocked upon entering the hotel because no one greeted us and we had to carry our luggage ourselves.nYour staff is very uninterested, the menus are very limited, we were completely hungry at the hotel.nWe asked for alternatives at the restaurant but no one was helpful.nYour room service menu and your restaurant menu were the same, it was really a joke, it can't be such a 5 star...It was our first time in Amsterdam and we had a terrible experience, so we moved to another hotel. We will never choose you again. There are too many things missing from the hotel.

Okay, but not what you would expect from a 5-star hotel with this status and history.nFirst, when arriving at the hotel, there was no one available to take our bags. Then, after check-in, the room we were provided was not as advertised. The room was on the top floor on the north-east corner, but was considered by the hotel to have 'river view'. Also, due to it being on the top floor, the only windows were dormers, which had a very low height compared to floor level, and therefore whilst standing, you could only look at the street below. Thirdly, the room did not have the 'separate seating area' advertised on the website. There was a chair like in any room, but no couch or seating are as you would expect from a suite.nWe took the three-course menu as dinner. Which taste-wise was fine, but was really awkward as it was a 'surprise menu', where for mains, I was served something that could be called a main course, but my fiance was served a side-dish. The waiter assured us that this was as they intended it and was correct and we had to share.nFinally, when ordering room service for breakfeast, the person delivering our order had everything on a trolly, but due to the room being behind a stairs from the main hallway, he had to walk back and forth between the trolley and our room to serve the breakfast. This made the whole room service experience very awkward, as we were not dressed (obviously) and the whole walking back and forth took something like 5-10 minutes.

Old, tired, in need of restoration, and understaffed.nnThe hotel must have been stunning in 1866 when it was built. Today, it feels sad.nnThe room seem like it hadn’t been touched since the 1980’s.nn—Drapes don’t close—so light comes in,nn—The couch looks like one that was in my college dorm—my wife suggested we put a towel down to sit on it. No joke,nn—I would recommend slippers for walking in the room as the rug in our suite looked filthy. We rolled it up and put it under the couchnn—1980s heat/ac system so you have to guess at the temperature settings by how far to set it in the blue or rednn— To say something positive, the sheets and towels are crisp and clean.nnStaffing: I feel sorry for the staff. They are very nice and try hard, but the hotel is thinly staffednn—we called to confirm our reservation a day ahead. Had to call three times as no one answered. On third call we let it ring 10+ minutes. They answered and said “they is no one to help you, we are very busy”. I hadn’t had this experience before—a precursor to our experiencenn—when we arrived there was no one to help with bags. My wife had to go into the hotel while I waited on the street. (The hotel has a big flight of stairs, and we thought the must have a ramp or luggage entrance—otherwise we would have just brought the luggage in ourselves).nnShe asked the person at the Reception desk if someone could help us. It was late and the hotel was completely empty. He said, “My colleague is very busy, I will do it myself. “ and came from behind the desk to help. (Very nice, but I’ve never seen this before). But only 2 staff for a 200 room hotel?nnOVERALL: This may have been a 5-Star hotel in the 1990s, it’s definitely not today. I think most of the reviews must be paid for, they can’t be real.

Finally a spacious and well-sized room in Amsterdam with quiet but efficient air conditioning. Perfectly located, a short metro ride into town but also far enough from the mess that central Amsterdam can be. The hotel is gorgeously kept and the housekeeping service is excellent. The pool was heaven-sent during the heatwave days. Don’t want to stay anywhere else in Amsterdam in the future.

Very disappointing. We wanted to take a drink at the bar. The staff seemed uninterested and kept us waiting. In the end we felt not welcome and left. Very sorry to have made this experience. It’s such a beautiful house in such a great place. I am sure you can do better…

I went to Amstel Hotel to take a short break from a long long time of working, and I'm glad i chose this hotel. It was pretty quiet so at one point there barely was anyone near the spa area, i loved the showers with different settings and the massage was great! Such lovely people.nI love how the swimming pool glittered as well, and the statue near the pool was lovely too.nThe sweet potato fries were probably the best sweet potato fries i've ever had (and i've tried them at many places), unfortunately i couldn't finish them because i was quite full.nThe only critique i have is that there was no full body mirror in the hotel room, this made it hard for me to check my outfit. Also the staff is so nice! I love the people they choose to hire there.nI could probably go on forever, there's just so much to love about this place and Samuel Sarphati was right, this felt like a home away from home.

Nice. The hotel is old school Amsterdam, located gorgeously around the canals of the city and shining magnificent in day and night light. Service, rooms, etc are just what youu2019d expect from a hotel in this category u2014 classic, and good.

Beds are incredibly comfortable. My husband and I have been regular guests for well over 15 years and have always enjoyed our stay. Hotel is in need of some TLC. Other than that, we will certainly return in due course.

We had dinner last night at the hotel, and when we arrived to the hotel, there was not a clear sign of where the restaurant was, so we had to wait until someone could guide us. From there, the waiter at the door just showed us where the table was from afar, but didn't care much to accommodate our group.nIn terms of food, I enjoyed it, but it didn't have the wow-factor that one would expect from a 5* hotel. So, it was just good enough. I wouldn't go back there to eat, but at least I've still enjoyed the experience.

I enjoyed a group lunch at the Amstel Hotel restaurant. For health reasons I am currently following a vegan and gluten-free diet. This was mentioned w the reservation as well as again when I got there.nThe waiters were very accommodating and very attentive to our whole group. The first two course were vegan and gluten-free as far as I could tell. The dessert I got at the end though turned out to have had both dairy and gluten in it. I believe that one of the waiters gave my gluten-free and vegan dessert to one of my colleagues who had the actual gluten-free and vegan dessert which was meant for me.nFor me this won't have a major negative health impact but for anyone that is actually allergic to gluten this is a deal breaker. Please beware and triple check before accepting any food in case you are on a very strict gluten-free or vegan diet.

I had the good fortune to spend six nights here in early October 2021. I could not have been happier with my stay. The room was spacious, well-appointed, and tastefully decorated. Everyone I came in contact with was gracious and friendly. The breakfast was amazing! Great location. I highly recommend this property.

Bad afternoon tea experience. Bland sandwiches, soggy pastries and over brewed bitter tea. Totally not worth the money.nThe building and the environment of the hotel are beautiful it's a pity that the food was so poorly made.

Fantastic place to stay. The hotel is full of old architecture characters, the view of the channel, and the location of the hotel is just amazing. All the staffs are so friendly, helpful and very professional. Peter is just the best. Their service level is just so top notch
