About Hotel Okura Amsterdam

Welcome to Hotel Okura Amsterdam.

Japan and Amsterdam have a very special relationship. It dates back to 1639 when only Dutch merchants were permitted to continue trading in Japan. Almost 400 years later, this affinity is upheld by Hotel Okura Amsterdam, where Eastern and Western influences are uniquely entwined. Our blend of Japanese and Dutch culture informs our anticipatory service, culinary excellence and authentic, quality experiences. A pursuit of perfection drives us, and every detail, every action, is rooted in achieving unsurpassable guest satisfaction. See more of Hotel Okura Amsterdam.

History

Hotel Okura Amsterdam was officially opened on the 24 September 2023 by His Royal Highness Prince Claus of the Netherlands. This remarkable event occurred after the prestigious Japanese hotel Chain had chosen Amsterdam for their first location abroad in their international expansion. But how did our 23-storey hotel rise up in the middle of Amsterdam’s residential area, you may wonder? For that question, let us take you on a trip down memory lane… Explore Hotel Okura Amsterdam. In 1969, the signing of major construction contracts signalled the creation of an ambitious new cultural site in Amsterdam’s residential De Pijp district, much to the delight of the Dutch government. A prominent opera building, hotel, and metro station were to be built near the old RAI conference centre to host guests from all around the world. Hotel Okura’s international allure would be the perfect match.

Combination in design

As the opera and hotel were to be linked, designs were drawn by a team of two Dutch and two Japanese architects to highlight the beauty of both cultures. Plans were adjusted to suit the opera’s technical, acoustic, and size requirements, leaving finite space for the hotel. These requirements, together with an underground parking garage and connecting tunnel, lifted the hotel’s design up into the sky – culminating in the rise of a remarkable landmark along the Amsterdam skyline. Stay and enjoy the welcoming packages of Hotel Okura Amsterdam! Today, you may notice that the neighbourhood looks a little different from what was once planned back in 1969. Instead of an opera, you will find a small petting zoo, sports centre, youth centre, and quiet retirement home have taken their place. Soon after the contracts were signed, it was discovered that the financial planning for both buildings differed, with the budget for the opera becoming a much-debated subject in the subsequent years. While the construction of the opera never took off the ground, the hotel was already quickly underway. As the towering hotel stands undisputed within the district, its occupants enjoy a breath-taking panoramic view of the city. From the esteemed Ciel Bleu Restaurant, Twenty Third Bar, Imperial Suite, and the hotel rooms, guests have admired the spectacular sights that Amsterdam has had to offer for years. Not only does Hotel Okura Amsterdam provide wonderful sights for its residents, but it also serves as a barometer as well. With coloured LED lights displayed from the roof, Amsterdam’s residents need only look to their own skyline for the latest update on the weather. Welcome to Hotel Okura Amsterdam!

In March 2022, I traveled to Amsterdam and stayed in the Hotel Okura Amsterdam. When I was walking around the city in the middle of the day, my hotel room was robbed. The door into the room was unbroken, but there was a locked safe, which was forced by robbers. As a result, robbers stole a substantial amount of money and jewelry.nnI complained to the police, and they started an investigation, but there is still no result despite the suspects being identified promptly.nnI believe that the safety of the guest must be the first priority of every respectable hotel, but it didn't work in such a case. The hotel refused to compensate me for my damages out of court. They considered that they shouldn't compensate guests' damages in such cases, despite they didn't manage to prevent it.nnMoreover, the civil court also declined my demands, it decided that Okura had provided the necessary safety measures and made every effort to prevent theft. But as we can see these measures don't work!nnI believe nobody should count on the safety services provided in the hotel, because all these cameras, security personnel, etc. just a semblance of protection and don't work in real cases.nMoreover, as a result, of staying in the hotel you can lose your money or other values, but nobody, and first of all the hotel will be guilty and nobody compensate your damage.nnTherefore be vigilant, rely only on yourself, and be careful when choosing a hotel.

Flawless. When I return to Amsterdam, I will definitely choose this as my place to stay. Loved the location. Club lounge was perfect to dip in and out of. My room had great views and was spacious - a rare find in Amsterdam. The employees are exceptional. I highly recommend renting a Boaty conveniently located right outside the hotel. So many great restaurants around. My only complaint is the spa is too bright. They definitely need some shades to block the sun. It can be so much more relaxing.

My partner and I stayed here for my birthday it was a beautiful experience. The hotel was perfect, room service was punctual and everyone was such a delight to talk to. Will definitely be back again! I couldn't stop taking pictures of the food as the presentation was just mesmerising. Staying in a panoramic view was absolutely worth it.nnThank you for making my stay so memorable. Cannot wait to revisit!

Perfect hotel both for business and leisure. Very nice views above Amsterdam. A bit far from the main attractions, but good thing - it is not croud around. Very good rooms, comfortable bed. Big pool with sauna.nI was a bit disappointed of the breakfast -- good quality, but the choice is limited - the price is a high for such breakfast. Night Room service - almost nothing available from the night menu already at midnight.

at hotel. Fortunately, the room was great. Coffee was good but they don't provide enough sugar or tea. Also, after asking for a recommendation for a restaurant, they suggested a restaurant that were very rude, so we walked there for nothing. The concierge should reconsider where they advise guests to go. It is a just okay

Excellent and spacious rooms in Hotel Okura! Very good breakfast buffet. Helpful and responsive staff. Quite a few restaurants within walking distance, but if you want to be close to museums or the city center you may wish to consider another hotel.

We really loved our stay in Amsterdam, the hotel itself it is very nice, the bed was amazing. I've never slept in better one before if it is about hotels. In general the whole hotel looks clean but our room was very dusty, we didn't believe it at first but after putting our bedsheets and other soft furnishings into motion we saw large cloud of dust flying in the room. Unfortunately hotel doesn't have air purifier so we straggle a little bit with dust allergy. We were expecting a little bit more from a Japanese style hotel with 5*

Our Okura stay was wonderful. Two nights in a beautiful hotel with first class service. The hotel is located next to a canal with gorgeous views of boat traffic and conveniently next to a trolly stop. Staff at the front desk were always smilingly and happy to assist. Breakfast was plentiful and dinners were yummy. We had a memorable stay.

Ciel Blue is truly the best restaurant Iu2019ve ever eaten at. I have to admit I was skeptical whether the 2 Michelin stars were really going to be deserved, but truly, this was magnificent. We have also previously eaten at Yamazato, which also has a Michelin star because it is also spectacular. Both restaurants have excellent service it must be said. In a word - infallible.

My stay in this hotel was the best ever I have ever had. I loved the breakfast/brunch buffet available, the relaxing spa & pool as well as the proximity to all the tourist attractions. Needless to say, but the staff were really courteous and accommodating.

Wonderful hotel! We only stayed for one night, but it was an absolute pleasure. The staff are very friendly, from porters to reception and service. Rooms are minimalistic but classy. A beautifully set and decorated bathroom for two with plenty of amenities makes the room feel even more luxurious. The bed was very comfortable and the room was quiet at night. I would definitely recommend it. And one small thing to mention, they have 2 restaurants with Michelin stars and one with Michelin Bib Gourmand. We tried to have dinner at 2 Michelin Star Ciel Bleu, but it was fully booked, despite the set menu being 595 Euro! We ended up at Serre, which was splendid.

We have a pleasant experience at Okura. High-tea, the restaurants and hotel stay were all well taken care of. Friendly staff and very polite. At the high-tea there could be a little less sweets present. An addition would be more savory snacks. The hotel also has a very nice cab service. For questions they are quickly accessible by phone or via whatsapp. We have been here several times and will definitely come back more often.

We were pleased with the professionalism found at this Hotel. The room was beautifully clean and quiet with comfortable furnishings. The bed was comfortable and the pillows were perfect, not too soft or hard, and a pillow menu was on hand should you wish to exchange it. The duvet however felt cheap as it would heat up very quickly and not breathe leaving you feeling a bit sticky.nThe shower has good water pressure but the bath could have been more comfortable.nThe location is great and perfect for seeing a nicer and less touristy side of Amsterdam.nI enjoyed a great massage from Erika at the spa and would highly recommend this.nUnfortunately we did not get to experience much of the hotels cuisine as the vegan options were very limited and practically non existent on the breakfast menu. We did have a fruit plate before checking out and the freshness of the fruit and the portion size could have been better.

What a disgrace for the price. The room was not just dated but worn out. The showerhead was tainted chrome, the wood on the desk was scratches and faded. There was an old corded phone next to the toilet, with the cord wrapped around the unit. Why?! Besides the tv, it all felt terribly dated and cheap. These things that are easily fixed, but it seems that the Okura doesn't want to invest in upgrading their rooms. The staff was friendly and the Spa was nice, though small. The only reason to go sleep here is the view. It was very nice, besides that, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Hi, We have been stayed over the weekend. The hotel rooms was ok-ish however the food (Japanese) was very but I mean very very poor. Knowing it has a star but the food comes with fried rice, are you serious? And it was super dry as well. We took a 6 course dinner it was just not good! For what we paid the quality of food is very poor. Never ever again. I don't care about the price but it must the price must be right. I travel and stayed in a lot of hotels and when it comes to food, restaurants I really know what I'm talking about. I would never go with my business partners, customers nor friends.nSorry Okura but it's just not good.

One of the best hotels in Europe! I was there again in September and the service was excellent. From the arrival until the departure, we felt very welcome. We noticed every detail of perfection in hospitality there. It was a pity that the spontaneous lockdown destroyed our plans a bit and we were not able to visit the Spa and have the Japanese Afternoon Tea but the hotel staff took care of us. The communication and service was exzellent. There was also a welcome gift which was really nice! The room was also very modern and there was also an extra table for In-Room dining. In-Room dining was perfect and also the Executive Lounge was nice! We would love to come back after the Corona to experience the hotel again without Corona circumstances.

Absolutely fabulous service. They go above and beyond to make you feel comfortable. Rooms are spacious and well maintained. Spa facilities are lovely to include pool, hot tub, sauna and gym. Also 4 restaurants and 2 bars on property so very convenient even if you have kids and don't feel like venturing out. We stayed in a corner suite and the view was amazing. We try to stay here each time we visit Amsterdam. Only downside was the Serre restaurant on property that did not live up to expectations.

The people who work here are funny and kind. The rooms are clean, neat and wonderful! You can bath while looking at the fantastic view! They have a special treasure hunt, coloring set, a bag and a origami set. My daughter loved it. The swimming pool and gym are great too! The swimming pool includes a spa, steaming room, jacuzzi and a 25m swimming pool!

From the moment I booked my suite, I was warmly greeted with a welcome email asking if I have any special requests. Okura not only allowed us to check in early (our flight from Los Angeles landed at 7AM), but they also provided me with the suite I requested with an amazing view on the highest floor possible! Due to COVID, my girlfriend and I had to schedule a specific time for the amenities but this actually worked out to our benefit because we do not like big crowds.nnThe location was exactly what we wanted. Okura hotel is less than 15 minutes from the airport and has the most amazing restaurants within 5 -10 minutes walking distance. We did not get a chance to eat at the hotel because my girlfriend wanted to explore the city, but we had some very strong drinks at the rooftop bar which had the best views, great bartenders and comfortable atmosphere. Highly recommended!nnThe staff was my favorite part, they made us feel like royalty and provided us recommendations for entertainment, vegan food places (for my girlfriend), local hotspots and museums. I accidentally left my phone at the airport my first day in Amsterdam and the hotel was able to connect me with the lost and found department and also give me a discounted ride to the airport by one of their taxis. Nick at the front desk will make you feel like family!nnThe room (executive junior suite) was worth every penny! My favorite features were the curtains automatically opening up to a panoramic view, the huge bathroom but most importantly THE BED!!!!!nnI chose Okura because I wanted everything to be perfect for our first international trip together and this hotel went above and beyond to make sure my girlfriend and I remained comfortable every single day. I am not lying when I say we will check for the Okura brand every time we travel and we are already planning our next trips to San Francisco for a wedding in October and Tokyo for New Years Eve and we plan to stay at the Okura!
